Five Healing Foods
No single food can “heal” the body on its own, but consistently including nutrient-dense, anti-inflammatory foods like the ones below can help support the body’s ability to repair and maintain itself over time. If you are looking for foods that support the body’s natural ability to repair, reduce inflammation, and promote overall health, this list is for you.
Fatty Fish (Salmon, Sardines, Mackerel). Rich in omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA), these fish help to reduce inflammation, support heart and brain health and promote healthy immune function.
Read Dr. Weil’s Guide to Tinned Fish for more insight into one of his favorite nutrient-rich foods.
Leafy Greens (Kale, Spinach, Swiss Chard). Packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, leafy greens support detoxification pathways, nourish the immune system and provide fiber for gut health.
Our popular Tuscan Kale Salad is a lovely side dish for hearty holiday meals - or as a nourishing lunch.
Berries (Blueberries, Strawberries, Blackberries). High in polyphenols and vitamin C, berries help combat oxidative stress, support cognitive and cardiovascular health, and reduce inflammation.
Try Diana’s Strawberry Oat Bars - a sweet treat that the whole family will enjoy!
Turmeric. This golden spice contains curcumin, a compound known for its anti-inflammatory properties and its potential to support joint and cellular health. It can also help modulate immune responses. Just be sure to add a dash of black pepper to get all its benefits!
We both love Turmeric Tea - a cozy way to wind down the day, especially in cooler weather.
Fermented Foods (Yogurt, Kefir, Sauerkraut). These foods provide beneficial bacteria that support gut health (closely tied to immune function), aid digestion and help maintain microbial balance.
